About

This is intended as an informal presentation.. Let me introduce myself,

I'm from Galati, a medium-size city in Romania, on the shore of Danube. In high school I was intensely interested in Computer Science, and also were my best friends; so we had a great time participating to CS contest, so being able to skip the boring high school classes (especially the French classes).
For the college, I moved to Bucharest, the capital city, and followed the courses of the "Politehnica" University of Bucharest, a well known (even in the USA) engineering university. Bucharest is really cool, but after two years the thing were getting boring, so I (also) enrolled as a student at the Psychology University of Bucharest. Here (at psychology) I only remained for one year, but I can certainly say that this (1996/97) was one of my best years, with dear friends and self-affirmation.
The next year an opportunity opened for me to continue my Computer Science studies in Paris (France). I much hesitated, since my dream at that time was around California, USA; finally, also determined by the economical situation in Romania, I accepted to leave for France. This also meant the end of my Psychology studies in Romania, which I loved so much. I must say that even now I'm not sure this was the right choice. Even if the 'objective' conditions in France are much better, I missed here all the time the warmth and intellectual joyness which were abundant in Bucharest.
But I must also say I don't regret coming here -- now I consider this as a necessary step, which just had to be done.
So, now I'm coming to the end of my second year in Paris. This year means the end of my Master in CS, and I have to decide what I'm going to do after.

Since this is a personal page, I can't help making a few personal remarks about France:
 - the CS training level in Paris Universities is LOWER than that in the Bucharest university I came from.
 - some French people consider strangers some sort of a bad thing, which must be kept out at all costs
 - Paris is a nice place for sightseeing, but not for living in
 - France is a socialist country, in which many people are even communists  :(
Anyway, there are also good things about France, which are not mentioned here.

Ok, let's come back after this somewhat passional diversion.

A few words about my lifestyle ? I'm lazy, I like waking up in the morning, even if often I see the morning "round the clock", I arrive precisely ten minutes late to any meeting, I used to be vegetarian; I have a positive and optimistic view of life. For the moment I don't have a girlfriend.
I find mountains very beautiful, the last years I always went hiking with good friends. Swimming is fun, and diving has the closest resemblance to flying.

The music I like: Jazz, the Rock of the 70s, The Blues, Folk
The greatest movie: Brazil, Solaris.
The last great books I read:
 C. G. Jung, "Memories"
 Richard Wilhelm, "The I Ching"
 Orwell, G. "1984"

Now, you should have at least an approximate view of what I'm looking like.

Interests: (not too seriously :)

  • Xenolinguistics (who knows what's this ?)
  • "Future Ready"
  • "Zero Bug" Coding Desiderata
  • ALife and NLife (or simply Life)
